GenomeWeb, a leading news site in the genomics industry, has profiled CGI-Clinics in a recent article: “Clinical Validation of Cancer Genome Interpretation Platform at Heart of New €10M European Project.”

Reporter Justin Petrone spoke to several consortium members to learn about the project, a €10 million European research initiative aimed at delivering a cancer genome interpretation platform, based on the existing Cancer Genome Interpreter (CGI) tool, that can be implemented clinically across Europe.

The goal of the CGI-Clinics project is to address shortcomings in the current tools used to interpret cancer mutations, make all databases accessible in one tool, and ultimately improve personalised medicine by helping medical doctors choose the most effective treatment for each patient.

Olivia Tort, international projects manager at IRB Barcelona, told GenomeWeb: “We realized there was an unmet need in the field, which is the interpretation of cancer variants in the clinical setting. We also realized that the CGI tool was good for research, but not adapted enough for clinical use, so we decided to adapt this tool to clinical settings.”

The article gives a clear and useful summary of the project’s aims and how we plan to reach them, and is well worth a read. A big thank you to GenomeWeb for taking the time to learn about our project and for sharing it with their readers. GenomeWeb is a trusted source for news and information in the genomics industry, and being profiled on their site is a testament to the potential of the CGI-Clinics project. We’re confident that this coverage will help us reach a wider audience and make a greater impact as we take the first steps in our five year journey towards improving precision medicine in oncology through the Cancer Genome Interpreter (CGI) tool.
